UPDATE: Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon stated that at approximately 4:30 p.m. today Steven Dietz was captured at a motel in Beaumont, Texas.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon several law enforcement agencies met at the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office early this morning in an effort to re-capture Steven Dietz who escaped from a work release program on Tuesday in Claiborne Parish.
Melancon stated that the task force received information that Dietz was at a mobile home in the Evangeline area. Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office ERT Team along with the Task Force made entry and learned that the suspect has left the residence shortly before their arrival.
Around 4:30 p.m. the vehicle that Dietz was believed to be traveling in was located at a local motel in Beaumont. Dietz was arrested without incident and was transported and booked at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Melancon stated that the Department of Corrections has begun proceeding to bring Dietz back to Louisiana.
Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon stated that at approximately 2:00 p.m. today officials with the Richwood Correction Center in Claiborne Parish notified his office that 19-year-old Steven Dietz had escaped from a work release program Tuesday.
According to Sheriff Melancon, Dietz who is described as a white male, 5'9", weighing 162 lbs, brown hair, hazel eyes was serving 6 years for several crimes that were committed in Acadia Parish.
Dietz is from the Evangeline area and law enforcement officials has reason to believe that he may be enroute to the area.
Melancon stated that the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, Claiborne Parish Officials and the US Marshall's Service have joined forces in the search for Dietz.
Sheriff Melancon is asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Sheriff's Office at 788-8700.
