St. Landry road tax passes; Ambres, Perron elected to school board

Milton Ambres has been elected to the District 3 seat on the St. Landry Parish School Board. Ambres defeated interim board member Faltery Jolivette by 18 votes--321 (51%) to 303 (49%). The District 3 seat was vacated in July when former board member John Miller pleaded guilty to his role in trying to buy the vote of a superintendent candidate.

Former interim superintendent Donnie Perron has won the vacant District 6 school board seat. Perron defeated Bambi Polotzola by picking up a 63% of the vote (966-570). Perron, a former coach at Port Barre High School, was appointed as the district's interim board member after longtime representative Ronald Carriere died in March.

In Krotz Springs, Keith Ardoin has claimed the District E seat on the board of aldermen. Ardoin defeated John Craig Burghdoff by a 41-vote margin--181-140, or 56%-44%..

Voters in the unincorporated areas of the parish approved a two-cent sales tax to fund road improvements across St. Landry Parish. The measure passed with 61% of the vote. The tax is expected to generate an estimated $7 million annually over a 15-year period.
