St. Bernard Parish Launches Slab Removal Program

CHALMETTE, La. (AP) - St. Bernard Parish is embarking on a $10 million push to erase some of the remnants of Hurricane Katrina's destruction, removing concrete slabs that mark the spot where homes stood before the 2005 storm.
The parish announced Wednesday that private property owners can sign up for the slab removal program free of charge.
The program's budget is funded by Community Development Block Grant money awarded by the state Office of Community Development.
Residents must provide proof of ownership and sign a "right of entry" form to participate.
