Special Performances at Red White and Boom

This year's Red, White and Boom celebration in downtown Lafayette was all about the music. From up and coming artists, to Grammy winners and seasoned musicians, a variety of sounds filled downtown this Independence Day.

Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band were Monday night's headliners, as they collaborated with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra for the first time.

"What a wonderful, wonderful thing to play with an orchestra and on America's birthday. You couldn't ask for a better time to wait to perform with an orchestra," said Carrier.

But it was also another first, a group of young musicians from the Boys and Girls club performed alongside the Grammy winners.

"It's an honor to be out here with Chubby, because he's a good coach and he knows how to teach kids," said Xavier Broussard, one of the young musicians.

The kids took part in a week long Zydeco camp with Carrier and other band members. Carrier said it was a chance to pass down the Zydeco tradition to a younger generation.

"Give them a chance to understand what Zydeco music is all about, and that's what I feel is most important to introduce them and let them know where it come from," he said.
