Soccer Team Mourns Loss of Teammate

Just days after a 12 year old Scott boy is killed in a bad car crash, he's remembered by friends, family and teammates.

The crash happened in Kaplan on Tuesday and claimed the life of 12 year old Dylan Gary. He was an avid sports fan and Saturday, KATC'S Chris Welty was there as those who knew him best remembered him on the soccer field.

As the Tigersharks Youth Soccer Team hit the field at Moore Park Saturday, they also took a knee during a moment of silence to remember their teammate Dylan Gary. It was an emotional day as the team and fans remembered someone they call a superstar both on and off the field.

"He was just that kid that kind of kid who took it in stride. it was a team effort always for him," said the coach's wife, Kellie Smith.

From a young age, Dylan always loved soccer and the outdoors. Last year, he scored the championship winning goal for the Tigersharks, a moment that teammate Dyllan Blanchard says is one of his favorite memories of his best friend.

"When he scored the game winning goal, we all dog piled on him as a team."

As Dylan's mom Heather Gossen watched the game, she says she knew her son was playing on the field in spirit.

"He would have went somewhere in sports. He was exceptional, he was amazing."

When the teams hit the field they're either wearing blue or white, but the Tigersharks created special jerseys with Dylan's name on the back all in honor of him.

"We went back to our old school as they say, red Tigersharks," said Gossen.

And being back on the field which Dylan loved so much brought back lots of memories as family and friends try to understand why this would happen.

"He better have one heck of an important duty up there to be taken so young because I just don't think it's fair. But, it happens. It was his time if it was his time," said Gossen.
