Section of La. 70 reopens after well blowout

PAINCOURTVILLE, La. (AP) - A section of La. Highway 70 closed
for nearly three weeks because of an oil and gas well blowout in
Assumption Parish has been reopened to traffic.
The Mantle Oil and Gas LLC well blew Aug. 11 and forced
authorities to shut down La. 70 between La. 1 and La. 996 and also
later a section of La. 1003.
The two-mile stretch of La. 70 and La. 1003 were reopened
Sunday.
John Boudreaux, director of the parish Office of Homeland
Security and Emergency Preparedness, told The Advocate Monday that
work similar to normal oilfield activity resumed at the blowout
northwest of Paincourtville.
Boudreaux said contractors began pumping heavy drilling mud into
the well Sunday to seal the well and continue to work on plugging
it Monday.
