Lafayette will be represented Wednesday in a "Rally for Jobs" to be held in Port Arthur, Texas. Bruce Conque, Vice President of Marketing and Governmental Relations for the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce is one of the speakers.
Rallies will take place in five states during the congressional recess period. September first rallies will be held in Port Arthur, Corpus Christi and Houston. Lafayette's "Rally for Economic Survival" back on July 21st attracted 10,000 supporters.
The "Rally for Jobs" in Port Arthur will give people a forum to voice their concerns about jobs and the economy. It is organized by the American Petroleum Institute (API).
"The focus of the rally will be jobs and the economy," said Jack Gerard, CEO and President of API. "U.S. unemployment is high, and Americans have growing concerns over the economic recovery," he said.
The oil and natural gas industry supports more than 1.7 million jobs in Texas and accounts for almost 25 percent of Texas' economy.
