Search is on for Man Accused of Skipping Trial

A nationwide alert is on for a man who walked out of the Lafayette Parish Courthouse, just before his trial Monday for vehicular homicide.

Wade Lohse is accused of killing 29-year-old Cacie Barras. Toxicology test results show he was impaired when he crashed into her vehicle. Deputies issued a search warrant to search his home and say they have evidence that could help track Lohse down.

"At first I was angry and then after a little more time, I became really sad thinking about her daughter and her mom," said Barras' friend, Kelly Breaux.

It's been a grueling nine months for Cacie Barras' friends and family. They're looking for closure, but Monday the chance of that was taken away when Wade Lohse, the man charged with Barras' death, left court before his trial.

"She was my best friend, she had a beautiful daughter and she was loved by so many people. Her life was cut short by this man and he should pay for it."

Breaux says since the accident, Barras' friends and family have feared Lohse was a flight risk and he should have been behind bars until the trial, instead of being given a chance to bond out of jail. She says losing her friend is tragic enough, but Lohse running out on his day in court is devastating.

"If he's watching, I just want him to man up and turn himself in because it's the right thing to do. He can't take back what he's done, but he can at least give Cacie's family and friends closure. She had so much to live for, she didn't deserve this," said Breaux.

If you see Lohse, call 9-1-1.
