The search is intensifying for a Lake Charles murder suspect.
The 499th FBI Top Ten Fugitive is Jose Manuel Garcia Guevara and agents believe they're closer to locating him. Agents believe Guevara is hiding in Mexico, but he may have re-entered the United States illegally.
Guevara is accused of raping and killing Wanda Barton in 2008, in front of her four year old step-son.
"What worse criminal can you get than someone who murders someone, rapes them and kills them in front of their four year old son."
The gruesome murder of Wanda Barton is still fresh in Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso's mind. He hopes adding Jose Guevara to the FBI Ten Most Wanted list will give this case new light and answers.
"We want him back in Calcasieu Parish to answer these charges," said Mancuso.
The FBI says the Mexican Government is not cooperating and will not help capture or extradite Guevara back the United States. District Attorney John Derosier is not seeking the death penalty.
"We knew upfront that if we indicted him for a capital offense, punishable by death, the Mexican government would not consider extradition and would not send him back to the United States," said Derosier.
Until Jose Guevara is caught, the Barton family will take each day one at a time.
"She was one of the best people you could ever meet. Everybody loved her and it isn't fair," said Barbara Young.
Wanda's family say they haven't seen closure and won't stop fighting until justice is served.
"We're coming at you with everything we have and we're going to catch you," said Kevin Barton, Wanda's husband.
The Barton family is pleading for Guevara to turn himself in.
"At least do the right thing for her, please. Don't do it for us, do it for her and her son," said Young.
The FBI considers Jose Guevara to be armed and dangerous. If you have any information of his whereabouts, call police. A $100,000 reward is being offered leading to Guevara's capture.
