As initially reported Jack Leblanc of Scott was found to be in possession of the suspected stolen property which was recovered, the initial investigation indicated that a gun stolen from an Acadia Parish home on August 21, 2013, had been sold to Leblanc and a search warrant authorizing the search of Leblanc's property was executed. During this search a large amount of property was seized and suspected of being stolen.
Since the initial release the St Martin Parish Sheriff's Office has joined the investigation and several items that were seized were returned to home owners in St Martin Parish as well as the other three parishes.
Leblanc was initially charged with the stolen gun that was tracked to the Acadia Parish burglary but investigators with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office working with the 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office have been able to match items recovered to specific residential burglaries in the four parishes.
On September 4, 2013 Leblanc was re-arrested and charged with 21 counts of conspiracy to commit burglary of inhabited dwellings, 103 counts of possession of firearms by a convicted felon, 58 counts of illegal possession of stolen firearms and 1 count of illegal possession of stolen things valued at $7,020.00. Leblanc's bond was set at 2 Million Dollars. Leblanc could also face additional charges in the other 3 parishes as well.
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office believes a major fencing operation has been shut down with the arrests in this case.
