Another night, another deadlock. The St. Landry Parish School Board added another vote for superintendent to its agenda last night during its regular meeting. The board again failed to elect a superintendent. Five members voted for Edward Brown, the district's child welfare supervisor, while four members voted for interim Superintendent Joseph Cassimere. Four other members abstained from voting. A candidate needs seven votes to be elected.
The school board agreed to re-interview Brown and Cassimere on April 18. The board considered reopening the application process, but it ultimately decided to move forward with the current candidates.
The board also voted to give Cassimere a $600 travel stipend, effective April 1. The board declined to give Cassimere a pay raise.
