The Lafayette Regional Airport is warning residents of a nation-wide scam called the Green Dot MoneyPak scam.
The scam works like this: someone calls and claims to be with either immigration or the IRS. The scammer tells the victim they need to put money on prepaid card, which the caller then tries to get them to give the caller the card number over the phone before they can receive anything.
Over the last two days, the Lafayette Airport has received two of these scams. The two victims were instructed by a caller to go to Lafayette Regional Airport (one to go to the immigration office and the other to pick up a car she had "won.")
There is no immigration or IRS office at the airport.
The BBB of Acadiana is aware of the scam.
