The Louisiana Restaurant Association(LRA) says its 2014 Restaurateurs of the Year are Ruffino's co-owners Peter Sclafani and Ruffin Rodrigue.
A ceremonious presentation to the pair will be made on August 2 at the LRA's annual Five Star Futures Gala.
LRA lauded Sclafani and Rodrigue, both Louisiana natives who have heralded southern Louisiana cuisine, for their exceptional cuisine, their unparalleled customer service as well as their commitment to community.
An LRA press release touted the owners of Ruffino's on the River as civic leaders and philanthropists who support non-profit endeavors. Ruffino's recently expanded into the Lafayette market after begining their restaurant and catering ventures in Baton Rouge.
Sclafani, an award-winning, third-generation chef from New Orleans, debuted his first cookbook, entitled Seasons of Louisiana, in December 2013. Sclafani has also been twice-invited to showcase his signature Italian-Creole cuisineat the world-famous James Beard House in New York City.
Rodrigue, who is from Thibodaux, may be remembered as a former All-American guard for the LSU Tigers. Rodrigue now is the front-of-the-house manager for each of the restaurants.
"This is obviously a tremendous honor for us two Louisiana boys. Let's face it...our state is overflowing with extraordinary chefs and world-class restaurants. To be singled out from among our peers is truly humbling," explained Rodrigue.
