VIOLET, La. (AP) - A stack of Christmas presents - colorfully
wrapped and stacked at the foot of a cross in Our Lady of Lourdes
Catholic Church - are all gone. Trouble is, instead of the needy
children the gifts were intended for, robbers got them.
Pastor John Arnone said Monday that about 60 Christmas presents
donated by members of the church were stolen after robbers threw a
cement block through a window and broke into the church. Arnone
says the gifts were opened by the robbers inside the church before
being taken away.
The wrapping paper remained piled around the altar.
Arnone says church members had collected names of needy children
from throughout the St. Bernard area. The gifts were to be
distributed to the children Monday night.
