ARLINGTON, Texas - The top-ranked Louisiana baseball team will put its 14-game road win streak on the line this weekend as the Cajuns head to UT Arlington for a three-game conference series at Clay Gould Ballpark starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The second game of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, while the series finale starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday. All three games will be broadcast live on News Talk 96.5 KPEL-FM with Jay Walker making the call. Live stats and streaming video are available on UTAMavs.com.
The Ragin' Cajuns (34-4, 14-1 Sun Belt) carry the nation's longest road winning streak into the weekend with a perfect 14-0 record away from M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. The squad has also been dominant in Sun Belt play winning all five series thus far, sweeping four of the five.
Louisiana ranks in the top 50 in all but one category and lead the nation in winning percentage, triples (22), home runs (46), slugging percentage (.536) and sacrifice flies (29).
Junior Jace Conrad ranks 10th in the country in RBI with 42 and also leads the team in hitting with a .386 average and 54 hits. Conrad has reached base in 28 straight games. Seth Harrison has reached in 24 straight games and is on a 13-game hit streak.
As a team, the Ragin' Cajuns are hitting .327 with 91 doubles, 22 triples, 46 home runs and have scored 319 runs. Eight Cajuns hitters are batting over .300 and the squad has 12 players with double-digit RBI, which leads the nation.
Junior Carson Baranik is scheduled to make the start on Friday and ranks second in the nation with an 8-0 record. Baranik has a 2.40 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 63.2 innings.
Ryan Wilson and Cody Boutte each have a 5-0 record and will follow up Baranik with Wilson set to take the mound on Saturday, while Boutte will make his sixth consecutive Sunday start.
The Cajuns hold a 20-13 edge in the all-time series against the Mavericks with the last meeting coming in 2002 as Louisiana won a 6-5 decision against UTA at the Coca-Cola Classic in Houston. The Ragin' Cajuns are 8-5 in Arlington. The last meeting between the two teams at Clay Gould Ballpark came back in 1979.
UT Arlington (16-21, 8-7 Sun Belt) is coming off of a 10-2 midweek loss at Texas on Tuesday. The Mavericks have won three straight conference series including a sweep of South Alabama on the road.
UTA is hitting .290 as team with 75 doubles, 22 home runs and is averaging 5.8 runs per game this season.
Eric Tate has the Mavs best average hitting .370, while Matt Shortall paces the UT Arlington offense batting .349 with 17 doubles, two triples, five home runs and has driven in 32.
The Mavericks will start three right-handers in the series with Brad Vachon (2-5, 5.34 ERA) scheduled to take the mound on Friday. Zach Thompson (2-3, 4.82 ERA) will make the start Saturday, while Daniel Milliman (4-0, 1.71 ERA) will go Sunday.
Following the UTA series, the Cajuns return home for a four-game homestand at "the Tigue" starting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with a midweek clash against in-state foe McNeese State.
