Riders prepare to hit the road for Cycle Zydeco

Cyclists from near and far have gathered in Lafayette ready to hit the road for Cycle Zydeco. It's four day bike tour through some of Acadiana's hidden treasures.

"We were really amazed by the history of the Acadians and the music and we just fell in love with the area."

Bill and Rona Colvin first visited Lafayette from Nashville last year and after learning about the bike tour decided it was the perfect way to see the sites.

"On a bike you get to visit the small towns you see a lot more than you see going fast in a car," says Bill.

The tour will include stops at local breweries, restaurants and historic landmarks.

"We want to make sure they get inside the towns and taste the flavor, not only of the restaurants, but of the stores and shops."

Not only do riders get a taste of Cajun culture, but organizer Kat Crappel says for many people traveling from other parts of the country it's their first taste of sunshine after a long winter. She says she's fielded many phone calls about the forecast.

"I told him it was 80 degrees pretty much throughout the ride and I couldn't promise him no rain, but I could promise no snow."

"Looking forward to sunshine, it's been a long winter."

Now in it's 12th year, this is the second year that Cycle Zydeco has been put together by TRAIL. In previous years, the tour was hosted by Lafayette Convention and Visitor's Commission.

Proceeds from this tour go toward helping the TRAIL organization.

TRAIL works to build biking, hiking and walking trails throughout acadiana for all to enjoy.
