Residents Want to Recall Arnaudville Police Chief

Arnaudville residents are taking action to remove their police chief from office because of what they feel are continuing problems in the Arnaudville Police Department.

During a regular meeting last night, town council members shot down rumors that it would abolish the police department and contract with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office for law enforcement services.

Some residents are complaining the police department hasn't been responding to calls like they should.

Jamie Huval, a resident of Arnaudville, says he doesn't feel Police Chief Richard Mizzi cares about Arnaudville citizens anymore. "We'd called the cops several times and they'd point blank say our police station is closed," says Huval.

Four months ago, Huval called police after a neighbor pulled a gun on his sister. Huval says the police chief showed up, took the gun away, but never filed a report.

According to Huval, a majority of residents he spoke to are fed up, and want to see the police chief removed from office.

Before Chief Mizzi can be removed from office, residents must obtain 291 petition signatures from registered voters.

KATC wasn't able to confirm any of the claims made by Huval, but when we asked Mizzi what his thoughts were on a potential recall, he said he understands that residents have to do what they feel they have to do.
