KATC has learned that, in the April 22nd arrest of the Kaplan High band director for carnal knowledge of a juvenile, K9 officers say they discovered the 16-year-old female in the band room with the band director.
The Kaplan Police Department's (KPD) initial report documents the details that led to the arrest of Alex Hilliard, 26, of Lafayette on three counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
According to the report, a K9 officer was training his dog inside the high school with several other officers during a school holiday. They say they found Hilliard inside the band room, and their investigation led to the arrest.
Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams says the female teenager was in the band room, and his officers said "something just wasn't right" about the situation, prompting officers to investigate. Adams said there were three alleged instances of inappropriate contact with the juvenile by the band director.
Hilliard was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail.
