Remembering Mamou Soldier

Funeral arrangements have been made for a Mamou soldier who died Tuesday at Ft. Hood. Sgt. Randy Richard suddenly collapsed while standing in formation. His family says Richard died after a blood clot in his knee lead to a heart attack.

"Randy was a very friendly person, a very caring person," said Sgt. Richard's older sister, Alberta Celestine.

"He always tried to tell jokes that weren't really that funny," said Sgt. Richard's younger sister, Roxanne Richard. "That's just the way he tried to make everyone laugh."

Sgt. Richard died at the age of 40. He spent 20 years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Iraq. The Mamou High School alumnus enlisted shortly after graduating.

"He was very proud to serve his country and the awards show that," said Celestine.
"We are very proud of his accomplishments while he was in the military," said Richard. "He loved being in the military, he really loved it."

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 6th from 8am-11am at Word of Faith Church on Highway 13 in Mamou. The funeral will follow immediately.
