It may not have been the coldest Mardi Gras ever, but it sure was the coldest one happening in March! The cold and icy Mardi Gras of 2014 will go into the record books. No, we didn't set a record low for the day. That was set just a dozen years ago, when we hit a low of 26 back in 2002. It was the coldest high temperature ever on March 4th. Our high was a mere 36 degrees, and that didn't come until just before midnight at the very last minute of the day! The coldest March 4th before that was 39 degrees set back in 1917.
But we set a monthly record too. That was the coldest high temperature ever during the month of March. The old record being 37 degrees set back on March 6, 1989.
I'd still be willing to bet that the coldest Mardi Gras on record her in Lafayette has to be February 14, 1899. Although I don't have any specific data for Lafayette for that particular date, February 13, 1899, Lundi Gras, saw a high of only 17 and a low of 6 making it the coldest day ever in Lafayette!
