Rayne Police Investigating Homicide

Rayne Police in Acadia Parish are searching for a murder suspect. Monday night's fatal shooting happened in the 600 block of Chappuis Avenue around 10 p.m.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old John Rougeau, who was found outside a residence with a gun-shot wound. Rougeau was pronounced dead at the scene.

"I don't know why someone did that to him. He don't bother nobody; he just stays to himself and everything," Rougeau's younger brother Damien Rougeau said. "He went from a store I guess, going to the next store and got killed. Just that quick," he said.

The gun shot that killed Rougeau was so loud, the neighbors down the street heard it.

"At first I thought it had a car wreck, but it was a boom," Edward Senegal said, who lives nearby where the shooting happened. Senegal was watching football on TV, when he heard the shooting.

"I peeped out the door and I didn't see nothing, but I could hear some voices, and then when I got across the street, they say that the guy got shot and somebody killed him," Senegal said.

Rayne Police say the body was found at a residence, and those who live there say the body was found underneath the carport.

"It's just sad you know to see that another young man lost his life," Senegal said.

For Damien Rougeau, it's hard to believe the brother he saw just hours before the shooting is gone.

"I hope justice will be served on whoever did that to my brother," Rougeau said.

Rayne Police on Tuesday afternoon said, they had no suspects in connection with this shooting. They're asking anyone with information to call Rayne Police at 334-4215.
