Raceland recreation tax up for renewal

Voters will decide April 5 whether to renew a property tax for recreation in Raceland.
Recreation District 2, which serves the Raceland area, is seeking a 10-year renewal of the 3-mill tax that's used to maintain and operate its facilities and programs. The list includes Recreation Park, the Raceland Senior Citizens Center and the Central Lafourche Market.
Recreation officials tell The Courier the tax brings in about $131,000 annually.
The tax expires next year. A renewal would extend it through 2024. The original tax went into effect in 1995 and was previously renewed in 2005.
