Public's assistance sought after woman was robbed after crash

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man that according to police stole a woman's purse after she was involved in a car crash.

On September 28th around 5:30 p.m., a woman traveling east on Breaux Bridge Highway (Carmel Drive) stopped at a traffic light at Lake Martin Road when a vehicle struck her from behind. According to Captain Kip Judice, the woman pulled to the side of Lake Martin Road when a man
approached her vehicle and asked if she was OK. As the lady rolled her window down, the suspect reached into the car and grabbed her purse. A struggle ensued and the victim was pulled from her car onto the road, said Judice. The man overpowered the woman and fled with the purse heading back towards Lafayette on Carmel Drive. The victim received minor injuries from the struggle.

On September 30th, the purse was found in a different location from the crime.

The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion, a receding hair-line, and in his mid-twenties to early-thirties.  The description of the suspect's vehicle is being withheld at this point.

The matter remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS (8477).
