East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux is seeking the public's help to identify and locate a person and vehicle of interest in connection to a drive-by shooting that killed a Baton Rouge child.
The sheriff held a press conference today to announce the private donation of a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for a shooting Saturday night that killed seven-year-old Terez Coleman. The Sheriff also released a residential surveillance photo of a vehicle of interest that travelled down Prescott Road near the shooting.
"We must come together as a community to ensure that this senseless killing does not go unpunished," Gautreaux said. "I am calling the community to rally around this family and stand against this meaningless violence. Someone out there knows something. You need to come forward."
East Baton Rouge Sheriff's detectives responded to the shooting at approximately 11:00 p.m. Saturday in the 8900 block of Prescott Road.
According to reports, the family of five was traveling in their vehicle on Prescott Road when they passed another vehicle, later identified as a light-colored, four-door sedan, that was traveling in the opposite direction. After hearing gunfire, the parents discovered two of the children in the backseat were struck. One child was grazed and had non-life-threatening injuries. Seven-year-old Terez Coleman was pronounced dead on scene as a result of his injuries.
