Lafayette firefighters say they responded Friday afternoon to a Lafayette neighborhood to contain a fire they believe likely to have been intentionally set in a condemned house possibly being used for drug activity.
Lafayette Fire Department spokesperson Alton Trahan said that an individual was seen exiting the abandoned home at 160 Hollywood Dr. from its rear, the area in which Trahan said was the point of origin for the fire.
Lafayette 911 operators took the initial call at 1:32 p.m. from a concerned neighbor.
"Neighbors had seen a male individual running from back of the house," Trahan said.
Once inside the home, firefighters indicated that they had discovered evidence, including drug paraphernalia, that led that to believe that one or more individuals, for several months, had been using the house for "illegal drug activity."
