BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Baton Rouge police are investigating a man who has posed as a woman and contacted several area high school student athletes about offering them work or money.
Sgt. Don Kelly said in a news release at least three athletes have been contacted by the man by telephone, and one of them met the man, who was dressed as a woman, in person.
Kelly said the unidentified man, a registered sex offender, claims to represent legitimate organizations but is offering non-existent jobs and cash vouchers.
Police believe the man obtained the athletes' phone numbers by calling area coaches while posing as someone offering jobs for their players.
Kelly says police have identified the man, but no known crime has occurred and he has not been charged with anything.
