HOUMA, La. (AP) - Organizers of two statewide events are eyeing the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center as a potential venue thanks to the success of last month's Police Jury Association convention, officials said.
Parish officials tell the Courier that The Justices of the Peace and Constables 2013 Convention and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Volleyball Championship could both take place at the center.
Civic Center Director Janel Ricca says both group's interest was drawn by the police jury convention.
Roland Dartez, executive director of the Police Jury Association, says it brought 1,025 participants, dozens of vendors and a slew of federal and state officials.
General Manager Rich Hendrix says that since the convention, he's fielded numerous requests about hosting banquets and other events, including the Justices of the Peace and Constables group.
