Police capture alligator in truck stop parking lot; Second gator escapes into waterway

PEARL, Miss. - An alligator was captured by police last week after being found in a truck stop parking lot.

"The officers didn't have time to wait for somebody to get there because, like we said before, there were people around, and they were in danger," Pearl Police Department Assistant Chief Tim Sarrett said.

The manager of the Flying J said there were two gators on the property Friday. One was under a car near Denny's, and the second near the edge of the property in a creek.

"It was fun to watch. They came out, and one of the guys had a thing that he put over her mouth to hold her down. Another guy grabbed her tail. Another guy sat on top," Flying J Manager James Lipscomb said. "They tried to rub her belly and put her to sleep."

The gator in the creek got away, but the other wasn't so lucky.

"We actually don't take him to Rankin County Jail," Sarrett said. "Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks actually took him and set him free."

Wildlife agents have relocated the captured gator.
