Parks Re-opening in New Orleans After Lead Tests

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Eight of 11 parks that were closed in New
Orleans because of lead contamination in the soil have re-opened.
City officials closed the parks for remediation over a month ago after tests were done to determine whether they were contaminated with lead.
Officials said the lead was likely the result of past removal of paint from old buildings and the use years ago of lead in gasoline.
Three parks remain closed, including one where sewer work is under way, another where archaeological work is being done and another where a local community group is making plans for the playground.
