Parishes getting tourism payments from BP

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Seventeen Louisiana parishes are getting
initial payments from BP's post-oil spill tourism fund.
Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne says the payments total just over $1.2
Lafayette Parish is the first to have its plan approved. It will
use about $235,000 to advertise regionally for its tourist-oriented
festivals. Evangeline, Jackson and Acadia parishes also plan to
advertise and fund local festivals through a combined $100,000 in
BP payments.
Lincoln Parish wants to use $17,700 to promote its Ruston park
as a tourist destination.
St. Landry Parish plans to use about $86,000 for an interactive
exhibit at its visitor center to promote its tourist destinations.
Dardenne says officials also have approved plans for Avoyelles,
East Feliciana, Franklin, Madison, West Baton Rouge, Allen,
Plaquemines, Grant, St. Tammany, Vermilion and Rapides.
