Lafayette, LA- On Thursday, February 16, 2012, between the hours of 9:00 pm and 3:00 am, the Lafayette Police Department conducted an OWI Checkpoint within the incorporated limits of Lafayette. During the course of the operation 457 vehicles passed through the checkpoint located in the 2100 block of West Congress Street. Of those vehicles, 7 drivers were stopped for secondary testing. A total of 3 drivers were arrested and charged with OWI:
1. Brandon P. Morgan (27) OWI
2. Carlos Wicklow (20) OWI
3. Christopher S. Raborn (20) OWI.
In addition to the above arrests, 4 citations were issued for various violations. Officers also made 2 additional arrests for drug violations:
1. Bryan K. Robinson (47) Possession of Marijuana
2. Reginald White (31) Possession of Marijuana, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine.
The purpose of the checkpoint is to target impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or any other dangerous substance. Officers working the checkpoint will respond with zero tolerance to those drivers found to be under the influence. Designate a driver if you intend to drink, by not doing so, it could result in costly fines and serious jail time.
