At 7:21 this morning, Lafayette and Carencro fire officials were called out to 224 Printemps Road on Carencro to investigate a fire at Thunder Ridge Farms. Upon arrival, Lafayette Sheriff deputies were on the scene. Sheriff officials were originally called out to a medical emergency situation. When deputies arrived, they noticed a fire had occurred in a small living quarter at the horse farm. An employee of the farm was lying on the floor unresponsive.
The manager of the farm, Sharon Brasseaux, arrived at the farm early this morning and noticed the horses were still in their stalls. She searched for the employee who lives on location. She entered the living area of the stable and found the victim unresponsive. The room was filled with smoke. She immediately contacted 911.
Fire investigators determined that the fire originated in the living quarters. The room sustained moderate fire and smoke damage. The fire actually extinguished itself. The depletion of oxygen in the room suppressed the fire. There were no smoke alarms in the room. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire victim has been identified as twenty year old Carlos Gonzales. He was an employee of the farm. The cause of the death is under investigation by the Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office.
