A man is behind bars, accused in a Lafayette armed robbery. Police say they responded to the armed robbery in the 1100 block of West Willow Street December 27. The clerk at the Dollar General Store told officers that two black male suspects entered the store wearing mask and produced a handgun. Investigators say after stealing the money in the register, the suspects fled the area. As responding officers arrived in the area they say they observed a white Chevrolet pickup truck fleeing the scene. Investigators say the truck was pursued until the two suspects abandoned the vehicle on Ransome Street. Both suspects were observed by officers fleeing on foot into the neighborhood. A Lafayette Police Department K-9 apprehended one of the suspects beneath a house in the 100 block of St. Charles Street. Officers were unable to locate the second suspect.
The clerk was not injured during the robbery. Police say the truck being operated by the suspects was discovered to be stolen from the Lake Charles area. The one suspect captured was identified as Jacolby Boutte, 20 years old. Boutte was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Moveable, Armed Robbery, Resisting Arrest and Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine. The investigation remains ongoing.
