An alleged gun fight in Morgan City leads to one arrest and an open investigation.
The Morgan City Police Department received at least three separate reports of gunshots Monday night around 11:45 in the area of Federal Avenue and Orange Street near J.B. Maitland Elementary.
Officers arrived at the scene and discovered Ray Clifton Ingram, III, and Dequante Wesley with apparent gunshot wounds.
According to Ingram, a vehicle arrived at the scene and occupants of the vehicle began firing a rifle at Ingram's parked vehicle.
Ingram allededly told police he retrieved a handgun and began to fire several rounds in the direction of the car. Police say Ingram the gave his handgun to a bystander to throw in the river.
Officers say they found over 20 shell casings scattered about the area of Orange Street near Ingram's vehicle, which had several bullet holes in it.
Ingram and Wesley were transported to Teche Regional Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. They were later released.
Detectives say they recovered two handguns from the scene, one of which they say Ingram admitted to owning. Detectives add they located a small amount of suspected marijuana inside Ingram's vehicle.
Ingram was arrested and charged with the following charges:
Illegal Use of a Dangerous Instrumentality, Obstruction of Justice, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon while in Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance; Possession of a Firearm within 1000 ft. of a School Firearm Free Zone. He was booked into the Morgan City Police Department's jail and is awaiting bond.
The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.
