Well control crews have arrived at the scene of a natural gas well blowout in Acadia Parish.
According to Louisiana State Police, Wild Well Control has begun their staging and preparatory efforts in anticipation of capping the well. Troopers say this process is expected to last into the weekend.
Officials say they still do not know how long it will take to close off the well. They do say, however, that this process is expected to be a prolonged event.
The residents who have been evacuated from their homes because of the blowout will be allowed to return to gather essential items. State troopers will release more information later today about when that process will take place and where the meeting point for that operation will be.
No timetable has been set to reopen the evacuated area. Troopers say those residents should anticipate being away from their homes for the next several days.
