The United State Commerce Department says proposed furloughs for employees of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service will not affect forecasting during hurricane season. In a statement, the NOAA and the Commerce Department said that schedules would be managed to maintain "adequate coverage." The release also said furloughs could be canceled in the event of a major storm.
