No sales tax change in Lafourche for now

The amount of sales tax you pay in Lafourche depends on which side of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway you shop on.
Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph wants to change by consolidating the existing sales tax districts into one. Doing so would take both Parish Council and voter approval.
Randolph says she's delaying her request for now, because she wants to wait until it can be included on a ballot with multiple other issues.
The north district, which does not include the incorporated towns of Thibodaux and Lockport, pays 8.7 percent in sales tax.
The south district, which includes the incorporated town of Golden Meadow, pays 9.2 percent.
