No. 2 Cajuns Close Out Regular Season At Home vs. ULM

LAFAYETTE, La. - The third-ranked Louisiana baseball team is set to wrap up the regular season this weekend with a three-game series against ULM at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field starting on Thursday at 6 p.m.


Game two of the series is slated for 6 p.m. Friday, while the series finale is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. Saturday will also be graduation and senior day for the team.


Saturday's contest will be broadcast on myKLAF-TV and simulcast on ESPN3.com. Dan McDonald will make the call with Kevin Cantrelle providing color. All three games will be broadcast on the radio, as Thursday's game will be on ESPN 1420-AM, while Friday and Saturday can be heard on News Radio 96.5 FM.


The Cajuns (46-7, 23-4 Sun Belt) clinched their fifth regular season Sun Belt Championship this past weekend after sweeping South Alabama on the road. The sweep marked the first time in the history of the program that Louisiana had accomplished the feat against the Jaguars in Mobile, Ala. The Ragin' Cajuns have also secured the most division I regular season wins in school history.


Louisiana ranks in the top 10 nationally in 17 categories including leading the country in slugging percentage (.506) and winning percentage (.868). As a team, the Ragin' Cajuns are hitting .320 with 121 doubles, 24 triples and 56 home runs. The Cajuns lead the conference with 421 runs scored coming on 382 RBI.


Caleb Adams, a candidate for the Golden Spikes Award, ranks top 10 in the nation in total bases (124), slugging percentage (.717), on base percentage (.507) and runs (56). Adams is second on the team in average at .382 and has a team-best six triples, 10 home runs and 36 walks.


Jace Conrad leads the squad in hitting with a .383 average. Conrad has a team-high 77 hits including 17 doubles, three triples and seven home runs. He has also swiped 17 bases and driven in 50.


Junior Greg Milhorn (5-2, 5.51 ERA) is slated to make the start in the series opener on Thursday. Milhorn is making his first start since March 9 against Texas Southern. Carson Baranik (9-1, 3.02 ERA) will make the start Friday night, while Cody Boutte (7-0, 2.66) will close out the series on the mound Saturday. Baranik leads the league with nine wins and Boutte is first in ERA among starters.


Louisiana holds a 78-52 edge in the all-time series against the Warhawks having won the last nine meetings between the two teams. The Cajuns have won by a combined score of 86-19 during the win streak.


ULM (22-31, 11-16 Sun Belt) has won its last two contests winning a series against Georgia State this past weekend. The Warhawks are 3-19 on the road this season with all three wins coming in conference play at Troy, South Alabama and UT Arlington.


This will be the first series for Bruce Peddie as the head coach of the Warharks. Peddie served as the interim head coach for 28 games this season.


As a team, ULM is hitting .244 with 84 doubles, 11 triples and 30 home runs. Keelin Rasch leads the squad hitting .288 with 13 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 29 RBI. Justin Stawychny has a team-best seven home runs and 35 RBI.


The Warhawks will counter with right-handers Jared Dye (1-2, 5.11 ERA) and Alex Hermeling (1-5, 5.25 ERA) on Thursday and Friday. Saturday's starter has not been dertmined.


Following the ULM series, the Cajuns will head to Mobile, Ala. for the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Tournament from May 21-25. Louisiana is the No. 1 seed and will more than likely have to wait till Saturday to find out who its opponent for the first game will be.
