No. 1 Cajuns Win 11th Straight Series Besting Mavs 9-5

ARLINGTON, Texas - In a similar fashion to the series opener, the top-ranked Louisiana baseball team scored seven runs in the final three innings to win 9-5 against UT Arlington to claim its 11th straight weekend series on Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Cajuns (36-4, 16-1 Sun Belt) remain undefeated on the road with a 16-0 record and are now on a six-game win streak. The streak is the fourth of the season for Louisiana of six or more wins.

"We are getting a lot of different kinds of wins this year," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "Ryan Wilson was great for us and we were able to score a lot of runs in the last three innings to take this one. We just continue to keep grinding and finding ways to pull out wins."

Louisiana recorded 17 hits in the game whereas the Mavericks (16-23, 8-9 Sun Belt) had 14. Caleb Adams, Jace Conrad, Tyler Girouard and Blake Trahan each had three hits, while Dylan Butler had a game-high four RBI. Conrad extended his on base streak to 30 games with his single in the fourth inning.

Adams is 6-for-8 in the series and has two home runs, three RBI and has scored six times so far on the weekend.

Seth Harrison saw his 14-game hit streak and 25-game on base streak come to an end in the contest as he went 0-for-5 with an RBI.

Wilson had a good start for the Ragin' Cajuns holding UTA to two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings with a strikeout and didn't walk anyone.

Junior Austin Robichaux picked up his fifth win of the season and first since March 21 throwing 2.1 innings of relief. Robichaux gave up two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk in the outing.

Greg Milhorn earned his second save of the year after coming in and getting three outs with the bases loaded to end the game.

The Mavs Justin Schnedler was saddled with the loss as he gave up one run on one hit in 0.2 innings.

The Cajuns and Mavs would play five scoreless innings to start the contest. The best scoring chance for either team came in the bottom of the fifth for UTA. Justin Copeland led off the inning with a double down the left field line. After moving to third with just one out, Wilson struck out Brady Cox and then got Travis Sibley to line out to end the threat.

Butler broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth sending a two-run double to left field to give Louisiana the lead.

In the bottom half of the sixth, UT Arlington evened the contest at 2-all. Matt Shortall drove a solo home run to right to cut the advantage to 2-1. The Mavs tied the game on a RBI double by Copeland.

The Ragin' Cajuns went back in front 3-2 in the seventh on a RBI ground out by Harrison.

The Mavericks tied the game for the second time in the bottom of the seventh on a double down the left field line by Eric Tate scoring Sibley from second.

The back and forth theme continued into the top of the eighth as Trahan singled up the middle to plate Adams and Conrad to make the score 5-3 Cajuns.

Greg McCall led of the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run for the Mavericks to cut the lead to 5-4.

Louisiana jumped out to a 9-4 edge in the top of the ninth scoring four runs on three hits. Butler drove a two-out single up the middle to score a pair of runs. In the next at bat, Chase Compton crushed the second pitch he saw well over the right field fence to cap the scoring in the inning.

UTA tacked on one run in the ninth on a Ryan Bottger single before Milhorn came on to get a foul out and double play to end the game.

The Cajuns go for the sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark against the Mavs. Louisiana has swept four of five conference series so far this season, and six overall.

Cody Boutte will make the start for Louisiana in the series finale. Boutte is 5-0 on the year with a 3.43 ERA.

Following the final game against UT Arlington, the Ragin' Cajuns return home for four games at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field starting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. as they host in-state foe McNeese State.
