New Way to Volunteer at Festival International

Preparations are underway for Festival International de Louisiane.  Crews are busy constructing the six stages for the five-day music festival in downtown Lafayette.  The festival is in it's 25th year and relies heavily on community support; purchasing festival pins helps keep festival free for everyone, and the event is also strongly driven by volunteers.

"It takes a huge amount of manpower and the majority of these people are volunteers," said Kim Neustrom, president of the festival's board of directors.  In this silver anniversary year for Festival International, there is also a new way for the public to help out.

"We will have a volunteer center on site," said Neustrom.

That means even while festival is going on, if you'd like to help out, you can do so by going to the volunteer center, which will be located at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Lee Avenue.  There you can volunteer a few hours to help sell merchandise and pins, or even help out in hospitality roles for the bands.

"It's a great way to see the backside of how this festival is achieved every year," said Neustrom.
