New Orleans man pleads guilty to theft

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A 48-year-old New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to stealing Social Security benefits to which he was not entitled.

U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente's office says Cristino Nunez entered the plea Wednesday to theft of government funds before U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan.

According to court records, from March 2001 through July 2011, Nunez stole about $186,917.50 from the Social Security Administration by illegally obtaining Social Security Disability Insurance payments.

Nunez faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 20.
