TALLULAH, La. (AP) - The new superintendent of Madison Parish schools is excited and ready to hit the ground running.
Lisa Wilmore was principal at a Monroe City elementary school when the Madison Parish School Board named her superintendent on Aug. 18.
She tells The News-Star that her top priority is getting the district's budget passed by the Sept. 30 deadline.
Wilmore takes on a district with challenges. All of its schools are in danger of being declared academically unacceptable next year if scores don't improve.
Wilmore says most need fewer than five points' improvement to be out of danger.
She says that while principal and academic leader of Berg Jones Elementary, she helped to boost the the school performance score from 70 in 2005 to 94.4 in 2011.
