The New Iberia Fire and Police Civil Service Board has reversed its decision to suspend fire chief Ronald Bourque.
The initial decision was handed down on August 13 after Bourque was accused of dodging a subpoena for a civil service hearing. However, the board voted 4-0 to overturn the decision. One board member was absent.
Bourque and his attorney, Daniel Landry, argued that Bourque did not violate any laws, and, as a result, was not eligible to be suspended. They also argued that the Firefighter's Bill of Rights was not followed during the initial procedure.
Bourque's did not miss any time at work because of the suspension, as it was postponed pending his appeal.
