A number of New Iberia non-profit organizations will go without funding from the city government this year thanks to the city's budget issues.
According to Mayor Hilda Curry, the city is require by law to contribute $3,000 to the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs. In addition, Curry says the city has an intergovernmental agreement with the Iberia Industrial Development Foundation requiring the city to contribute $5,000 to the foundation. Other organizations that received funding in the past, however, will not see any money from the city.
"I certainly hope we can reinstate funding," Curry said. "but when the city is making across the board cuts, we felt that we had to cut the non-profits, also."
