Murder Investigation of Former NISH football Player Derek Olivier Continues

Who killed Derek Olivier? That's the question his friends and family are still asking a year after the former New Iberia Senior High football star was gunned down in Arkansas.

You may recall, last September, Olivier and two others were helping change a tire near Arkansas Baptist College, when a man seen on surveillance video walks up and opens fire.
Olivier was shot and killed just two days before his 20th birthday.
Another man was grazed by a bullet; the third was not injured.
Since then, the case seems to come to a standstill.

Olivier's mother Alma says Derek's memory will be carried on--not only by his family but also by the college he once called home.
Alma Olivier says, "Well, we did celebrate his 21st birthday because we knew that's what he would have wanted."

She says when she talks about her son Derek, it's always a cause for celebration. A son who's name will now be carried on through The Derek Olivier Research Center on the Arkansas Baptist College campus in Little Rock, Arkansas. The center's mission is to find and stop the source of "black on black" violence.
"I mean we knew that the guy who did the shooting wasn't aiming for Derek, but Derek was the one that got killed," says the former NISH student's mother.

While Arkansas Police do have a description of the shooter, they still have not made an arrest. This is something this mother hopes could be changed with help from people in that area.
Alma adds, "So if anybody in Arkansas would know or saw somebody or knows someone, put yourself in our situation. What if that was your child? We just want somebody to let us know who did it. That's it."
