The Louisiana Supreme Court will review an appellate court's ruling last year that overturned a Lafayette Parish jury's guilty verdict against Mary Henderson Trahan, who was convicted of second-degree murder in the 2009 shooting death of her boyfriend.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/zfCOAD ) the high court last week granted writs filed last year by prosecutor Daniel M. Landry III, who has asked the court to maintain the jury's decision.
The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal reversed the jury's decision and Trahan's subsequent life sentence in a ruling issued July 6.
The appellate court found Landry failed to offer enough evidence during the trial to prove second-degree murder, manslaughter or negligent homicide in the death of George Barbu.
The high court ruled that Trahan will remain incarcerated while it reviews the case.
