JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi's state-licensed casinos saw revenues drop in August, traditionally a big month for gaming venues.
The 19 riverside casinos took in $94 million from players last month, down $17 million from July. The Mississippi River casinos saw a $6.5 million drop from August 2010.
The state Department of Revenue also reported that 11 Gulf Coast casinos earned $90.9 million, down $8.5 million in July and off $10 million from August 2010, when winnings were $101 million.
Overall, state gross casino revenue was $185.1 million. Revenue in July was 210.6 million. Last year revenue was $201.7 million in August.
The Mississippi figures do not include Indian reservation casinos, which are not required to report their winnings to the public.
