Mental exam ordered for woman accused of murder

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A judge has ordered a Minden woman charged with fatally stabbing an airman at Barksdale Air Force Base
to undergo a mental evaluation to determine if she is competent to
stand trial.
Defense attorneys said Monday that Kimethia Coleman cannot communicate with them about the 2010 death of Brian Spinks.
Coleman is free on $200,000 bond on a second-degree murder charge. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
Police said Spinks was stabbed 65 times and his throat was slashed inside an apartment. Investigators allege that Coleman and
Spinks were romantically involved, and the attack occurred during a
domestic dispute.
The Times reported that a May 31 hearing was set to hear the
report of a court-appointed sanity commission.
