May 4th Acadiana Election Results

Five Acadiana parishes participated in voting today. Most of the items on the ballot were for property tax renewals. Here's a breakdown of tonight's election results:

FINAL in St. Martin Parish: To renew a 1-cent sales tax, generating an estimated $6.6 million a year, and rededicate the revenue to school district capital improvements, technology, security as well as salaries and benefits of school district employees. It PASSES with 73% of the vote.

FINAL in St. Martin Parish: To issue 20-year general obligation bonds not exceeding $40.3 million, and repayable by property taxes, to buy and improve land for buildings and playgrounds and other school facilities. It PASSES with 70.8% of the vote.

FINAL in St. Mary Parish: Renewal of a 10-year, 3.47-mill property tax, generating an estimated $590,000 a year, to maintain and operate hospital facilities. It PASSES with 85% of the vote.

FINAL in Acadia & Evangeline Parishes: To renew a 10-year, 2-mill property tax, generating an estimated $74,000 a year, to fund Basile High School's Athletic Department. It PASSES with 83% of the vote in EVANGELINE; it also PASSES with 85% of the vote in ACADIA.

FINAL in Evangeline Parish: To renew a 10-year, 1.02-mill(not million) property tax, generating an estimated $238,000 a year, to provide services to the elderly. It PASSES with 89.87 % of the vote.

FINAL in Acadia Parish... Crowley Service Area Fire Protection District No. 11
To levy a 10-year, $100 parcel fee, generating an estimated $120,000 a year for fire service. It PASSES with 94% of the vote.

FINAL in Evangeline Parish: Ville Platte
To renew a 10-year, 4-mill property tax, generating an estimated $142,000 a year, to operate police and fire departments. It PASSES with 91% of the vote.

FINAL in Vermilion Parish: 7th Ward, Gravity Drainage District No. 2
Renewal of a 10-year, 19.26-mill property tax, generating an estimated $700,000 a year, to improve and maintain drainage works. It PASSES with 93% of the vote.
