A Vermilion Parish Grand Jury today indicted a Maurice man in the death of a man who was shot and killed during a hunting trip on February 10, 2011. Quintin Mire, 48, is charged with second degree murder and obstruction of justice in Julian Gajan Junior's death. Mire was originally charged with negligent homicide. Mire is accused of killing Gajan when he fired three shotgun shots at what he thought was a deer, according to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon. He panicked, left and didn't report the shooting, said Couvillon.
Authorities started a search after receiving a call about Gajan not returning home. "After an extensive 3 day search, Julian Gajan's body was located along a levee in the marsh off of the piling canal near White Lake, with numerous buck shot projectiles which had penetrated his body," according to Couvillon.
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Marine Division, detectives, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and U. S. Coast Guard searched for Gajan.
